In case the disco nation was wondering if Chic could get any more assured after “Le Freak,” the band went ahead and proved it could. Risqué, its third album, was their most ambitious yet, offering their greatest classic and several other numbers that weren’t too terribly far behind. “Good Times,” heard here in its full, resplendent eight-plus minutes, topped the R&B chart for six weeks with one of the smoothest, most indelible grooves ever, and a worried appraisal of the future not so buried between its funky lines. “My Feet Keep Dancing,” replete with a tap solo by the great Fayard Nicholas, made getting lost forever in music sound better than ever, and “My Forbidden Lover” brought the Chic style to romance: you could read that “forbidden” to mean anything you like.
